History

Adventureland opened in 1971 with three attractions, The Tropical Serenade, The Jungle Cruise and the Swiss Family Treehouse. The original theme of Adventureland focused on the 1950's view of exotic adventure. Lush vegetation, tribal music and Pacific architecture gave the land a “jungle like” feel. Change quickly came to Adventureland however, when in 1973 Caribbean Plaza was built housing the popular dark ride Pirates of the Caribbean. Caribbean Plaza expanded on the theme of Adventureland, and gave the land more of an island feel then a jungle one.

More change came to Adventureland in 1991 When the Tropical Serenade was replaced by The Enchanted Tiki Room (Under New Management). The new attraction was similar to the Tropical Serenade but it featured a new plot with Iago (from Aladdin) and Zazu (from the Lion King) taking over as owners of the Tiki Room. Another major expansion came to Adventureland in 2001. Taking it's inspiration from the Disney movie Aladdin, Arabian Village was built. This new section of Adventureland is home to the ride The Magic Carpets of Aladdin. The Magic Carpets of Aladdin is similar to the popular Dumbo attration, in that guests can “fly” on the carpets but with option to choose how high or low they fly. Besides just giving Adventureland a new attraction, the Arabian Village expansion also once again changed the theme of Adventureland. Now, Adventureland is also part desert oasis. The most recent change came to Adventureland in 2011 when the Enchanted Tiki Room (Under New Management) was replaced by Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room. The show was changed back to a slightly edited version of the original Disneyland Tropical Serenade.

After the success of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series, pirates have been featured prominently in Adventureland. An example of this, Captain Jack Sparrow's Private Tutorial allows guests to be trained as pirates by Captain Jack himself. Pirates merchandise has also been sold throughout Adventureland not only at the Pirates Bazaar.
