They came up with three new dark rides, one based on Sleeping Beauty, one based on the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and one based on Marry Poppins. Although proposed later (in 1977), another planned attraction for the Magic Kingdom was Enchanted Snow Palace. The attraction would have been a dark boat ride through a magic snow world. Due to the extra cost, and perhaps Roy Disney’s disapproval, it was eventually decided to recreate the Disneyland dark rides in the Magic Kingdom. Fantasyland opened along with the rest of the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971. After the ride had closed the lagoon which housed it remained empty until 2001. Also in 1994, Snow White's Adventure was redesigned to be more like the Disneyland version of the attraction. When Snow White's Adventures reopened it was renamed Snow White's Scary Adventures. The reason for the name change was that the attraction had often scared younger children and the Imagineers felt that some warning was necessary.Another opening day attraction closed in 1998 when Mr. Toad's Wild Ride was removed. Disney thought that a more known character would be better suited for the large building that housed the attraction. ==Fantasyland Expansion==

In September of 2009, Disney announced that a major expansion would be taking place in Fantasyland. The proposed expansion, which would double the size of the land, was to include <ref> http://www.orlandosentinel.com/travel/attractions/the-daily-disney/orl-bk-new-fantasyland-disney-world-magic-kingdom-story.html </ref>:
In 2009 Disney announced that Mickey’s Toontown Fair would be closing, and that Fantasyland would be expanding into the previous Toontown location. The expansion is expected to double the previous size of Fantasyland. The first part of the expansion to open was Storybook Circus, which opened on March 12, 2012. The area is * A Little Mermaid themed to look like a traveling circus, similar to the one seen in the Disney movie, Dumbo. As part of the expansion the [[Dumbo the Flying Elephant]] attraction was moved, and the Barnstormer (from Mickey’s Toontown Fair) was re-themed, becoming The Barnstormer Starring Goofy as The Great Goofini. The former Toontown train station was also re-themed, eventually reopening as the Fantasyland Train Station. Two other attractions, Pete’s Silly Sideshow and the Casey Jr. Splash 'n' Soak Station are expected to join Storybook Circus at a later datedark ride.
Other parts of * A second Dumbo the “new” Fantasyland are set to house a variety of attractions based on Disney movies. The first addition should be Under the Sea- The Voyage of the Little Mermaid which is set to open in late 2012. This new Flying Elephant attraction is based on the Disney Movie The Little Mermaid and will be a dark ride type attraction. Ariel's Grotto is also expected to re-open in the Fantasyland expansion near the new Little Mermaid ride, with an interactive circus tent.
Also expected to open in late 2012 is Beauty and the Beast Village (featuring the new Beast's Castle), a Belle * A meet-and-greet and that would allow guests to " share a dance with Cinderella; celebrate Sleeping Beauty’s birthday with the Be Our Guest restaurant. This entire part of the expansion will be based on the popular Disney movie Beauty and the Beast. The final part of the expansion is expected to open Good Fairies; or join Belle in an enchanting story performance in late 2013 with The Seven Dwarfs Mine Coaster.
