In August 2011, Disney announced that a new Tinkerbell meet and greet would take place in the old Adventureland Veranda building. Called Tinker Bell's Magical Nook, the meet and greet operated from 2011 until 2014 <ref> http://allears.net/tp/mk/TinkerBellsMagicalNook.htm </ref>.
In February 2015, permits were filled for extensive construction on the Adventureland Veranda building <ref> http://www.wdwradio.com/2010/03/the-adventureland-veranda-is-back-sort-of/ </ref>. On August 15, 2015, at the D23 Expo, Disney announced that a new restaurant called the "Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen" would be opening in the old Adventureland Veranda building <Ref name= "disney"> http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2015/08/jungle-navigation-co-ltd-skipper-canteen-to-open-at-magic-kingdom-park/ </ref>. Details Announced during the "Safari So Good—60 Years of the World Famous Jungle Cruise" panel <ref> https://d23.com/parks-celebrates-60-years-of-innovation-at-d23-expo-2015/</ref>, details further emerged that the Jungle Skipper Canteen would have a [[Jungle Cruise]] theme and would be staffed by Jungle Cruise Skippers <ref name= "disney"/>.
According to the head chef of the Jungle Skipper Canteen the idea for the restaurant had been in development for four years, while the menu was put together over a period of a year and a half <ref> https://twitter.com/ORLParkPass/status/676152580108611584 </ref>.
