Spearheaded by Walt Disney, Liberty Street was to be a road that ran parallel to Main Street USA <Ref name= "mouseplanet"/>. The new area was to be set during the era of the Revolutionary War and it would have featured colonial architecture and a cobblestone road. In fact, some designs for the street featured 13 buildings, one representing each of the original colonies <Ref name= "hill"> http://jimhillmedia.com/editor_in_chief1/b/jim_hill/archive/2005/03/15/563.aspx </ref>. After walking down Liberty Street, guests would arrive at Liberty Square. In the square, guests would be able to see a blacksmith shop, a glassmaker, a weaver, a print shop, Paul Revere’s silversmith shop and a cabinetmaker <ref name= "mouseplanet"> https://www.mouseplanet.com/8167/The_Liberty_Street_Story_1959 </ref>.[[Image:hauntedmansion10.jpg|400px|thumb| The Haunted Mansion in Liberty Square. The idea for Liberty Square originally started as an addition for real draw of Disneyland's Main Street USA. The idea was revisited in the late 1960's during the planning of the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. Liberty Square was revisited because Imaganeers had a problem. In Disneyland they had a land called “New Orleans Square”however, but Walt Disney World was so close to New Orleans that they felt the land would not hold the same appeal. be Liberty Square Hall (also called Independence Hall in some concept art). This colonial meeting hall was the perfect answer to their problemhouse two major attractions. Instead The first was to be found in The Hall of being based on New OrleansThe Declaration of Independence. Here, guests would see the Imaganeers themed Liberty Square dramatic story of America’s struggle for independence come to be a colonial townlife. The land second attraction was similar to New Orleans square, but distinctive enough to hold the attention be found in The Hall of the guestsAmerican Presidents. Another addition to Liberty Square This attraction was its architectureto be titled [[One Nation Under God]] and it would have been a presentation of “the mighty cavalcade of American History" <ref name= "mouseplanet"/>. In Also found in Liberty Square would be a recreation of the architecture progress through time. It starts by the Haunted Mansion (New York 1680-80) Liberty Bell and travels through the colonial times before ending in Frontierland Liberty Tree, complete with Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (California 1880)the 13 lanterns <ref name= "hill"/>. Although initially advertised as opening in 1959, Liberty Street would never reach fruition, as much of the company’s resources ended up being used to update Tomorrowland <ref> http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2013/07/a-look-back-liberty-street-at-disneyland-park/ </ref>.
Although never used in Disneyland, Liberty Street returned to the limelight when Imagineers began working on designs for the Magic Kingdom. Due to the close proximity of New Orleans to Florida, Imagineers did not think that guests would be all that interested in a version of Disneyland’s New Orleans Square. Instead, Imagineers turned to the old Liberty Square expansion idea as a solution to their problem. As opposed to a version of New Orleans Square, Imagineers decided to create an entire land set in the Revolutionary War era. Liberty Square would take its inspiration from east coast colonial architecture. Besides getting its theming from the old Liberty Street idea, Liberty Square also featured the Liberty Tree, the Liberty Bell and a brand new attraction based on the One Nation Under God concept- [[The Hall of Presidents]] <ref name="hill"/>. =History==Changes Since Opening Day===[[Image:LibertyHall.jpg|400px|thumb| The Hall of Presidents in Liberty Square.
