==Conception== The idea for Liberty Square originally started as an addition for Disneyland's Main Street USA. Although never used in California, the idea was revisited in the late 1960's during the planning of the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. Liberty Square was originally brought back up because Imagineers had a problem. In Disneyland they had a is land called “New Orleans Square”, but Walt Disney World was so close to New Orleans that Disney felt the land would not hold the same appeal. Liberty Square was the perfect answer to their problem. Instead of being based on New Orleans, the Imagineers themed Liberty Square to be a colonial town, thus the land was similar to New Orleans square, but distinctive enough to hold the attention of the guests. Another difference between Liberty Square and New Orleans square was its architecture. In Liberty Square the architecture progresses through time. It starts by inside the Haunted Mansion (New York 1680-80) and travels through the colonial times before ending in Frontierland with Big Thunder Mountain RailroadMagic Kingdom (California 1880).
History
The concept of Liberty Square opened with the rest of the Magic Kingdom in 1971began as an expansion idea for Disneyland known as Liberty Street. Spearheaded by Walt Disney, Liberty Street was to be a road that ran parallel to Main Street USA . The land opened with four attractions- new area was to be set during the Hall era of Presidents, the Haunted Mansion, the Liberty Belle Riverboat, Revolutionary War and the Mike Fink Keel Boatsit would have featured colonial architecture and a cobblestone road. Unlike In fact, some designs for the rest of the landsstreet featured 13 buildings, Liberty Square has only had one major change, the closure representing each of the Mike Fink Keel boatsoriginal colonies . After walking down Liberty Street, which allowed guests to take off from would arrive at Liberty Square and circle around Tom Sawyers Island. In 1997, one of the Disneyland Mike Fink Keel boats capsized with square, guests on board would be able to see a blacksmith shop, a glassmaker, a weaver, a print shop, Paul Revere’s silversmith shop and after the accident both the Disneyland and the Walt a cabinetmaker .[[Image:hauntedmansion10.jpg|400px|thumb| The Haunted Mansion in Liberty Square. Besides the closing The real draw of the Mike Fink Feel BoatsDisneyland's Liberty Square however, the only other change was to occur in be Liberty Square happened at the Hall of Presidents(also called Independence Hall in some concept art). In 1993 President Bill Clinton This colonial meeting hall was added to the attractionhouse two major attractions. Unlike the former presidents The first was to be found in The Hall of the hall, Bill Clinton actually personally recorded his speechThe Declaration of Independence. Besides just adding the new presidentHere, when guests would see the show reopened in 1993, the tone dramatic story of the attraction had also changedAmerica’s struggle for independence come to life. The second attraction was to be found in The Hall of American Presidents now focused much more on slavery and other racial issues then it had in the past. The This attraction was once again changed in 2009to be titled One Nation Under God and it would have been a presentation of “the mighty cavalcade of American History" . Besides the obvious inclusion Also found in Liberty Square would be a recreation of Barack Obama into the Hall of PresidentsLiberty Bell and the Liberty Tree, complete with the show also focuses a little less heavily on racial issues and slavery than before13 lanterns . Another addition features Abraham Lincoln delivering Although initially advertised as opening in 1959, Liberty Street would never reach fruition, as much of the Gettysburg Address and company’s resources ended up being used to update Tomorrowland .==Attractions==
Although never used in Disneyland, Liberty Street returned to the limelight when Imagineers began working on designs for the Magic Kingdom. Due to the close proximity of New Orleans to Florida, Imagineers did not think that guests would be all that interested in a version of Disneyland’s New Orleans Square. Instead, Imagineers turned to the old Liberty Square expansion idea as a solution to their problem. As opposed to a version of New Orleans Square, Imagineers decided to create an entire land set in the Revolutionary War era. Liberty Square would take its inspiration from east coast colonial architecture. Besides getting its theming from the old Liberty Street idea, Liberty Square also featured the Liberty Tree, the Liberty Bell and a brand new attraction based on the One Nation Under God concept- The Haunted MansionHall of Presidents- This dark ride allows guests to board Doom Buggies and tour . ===Changes Since Opening Day===[[Image:LibertyHall.jpg|400px|thumb| The Hall of Presidents in Liberty Square.
