==ConceptionHistory====History==The concept of Liberty Square began as an expansion idea for Disneyland known as Liberty Street. Spearheaded by Walt Disney, Liberty Street was to be a street that ran parallel to Main Street USA. The new area was to be set during the era of the Revolutionary War and it would have featured colonial architecture and a cobblestone road. In fact, some designs for the street featured 13 buildings, one representing each colony <Ref name= "hill"> http://jimhillmedia.com/editor_in_chief1/b/jim_hill/archive/2005/03/15/563.aspx </ref>. After walking down Liberty Street, guests would arrive at Liberty Square. In the square, guests would be able to see a blacksmith shop, a glassmaker, a weaver, a print shop, Paul Revere’s silversmith shop and a cabinetmaker <ref name= "mouseplanet"> https://www.mouseplanet.com/8167/The_Liberty_Street_Story_1959 </ref>.

The idea for Liberty Square originally started as an addition for real draw of Disneyland's Main Liberty Street USA. Although never used in Californiahowever, the idea was revisited to be Liberty Hall (also called Independence Hall in some concept art). This colonial meeting hall was to house two major attractions. The first was to be found the late 1960's during the planning Hall of The Declaration of Independence. Here, guests would see the Magic Kingdom dramatic story of America’s struggle for independence come to life. The second attraction was to be found in Walt Disney Worldthe Hall of American Presidents. Liberty Square This attraction was originally brought back up because Imagineers had to be titled [[One Nation Under God]] and it would have been a problempresentation of “the mighty cavalcade of American History" <ref name= "mouseplanet"/>. In Disneyland they had Also found in Liberty Square would be a land called “New Orleans Square”recreation of the Liberty Bell and the Liberty Tree, but Walt Disney World was so close to New Orleans that Disney felt complete with the land 13 lanterns <ref name= "hill"/> .Although initially advertised as opening in 1959, Liberty Street would not hold never reach fruition. Instead Due to the close proximity of being based on New Orleansto Florida, the Imagineers themed Liberty Square to did not think that guests would be all that interested in a colonial townversion of Disneyland’s New Orleans Square. Instead, thus Imagineers turned to the land was similar old Liberty Square expansion idea as a solution to their problem. As opposed to a version of New Orleans squareSquare, but distinctive enough Imagineers decided to hold create an entire land set in the attention of the guestsRevolutionary War era. Another difference between Liberty Square and New Orleans square was would take its inspiration from east coast colonial architecture. In Besides getting its theming from the old Liberty Street idea, Liberty Square also featured the architecture progresses through time. ==History==Liberty Square opened with the rest of the Magic Kingdom in 1971. The land opened with four attractions- [[The Hall of Presidents]], the [[Haunted Mansion]], the [[Richard F. Irvine Riverboat]] (which actually opened one day later than the rest of the land) and the Mike Fink Keel Boats. Unlike the rest many of the lands in the Magic Kingdom, Liberty Square has only had a few major changessince opening day. The first of these was the addition of a second riverboat the [[Admiral Joe Flower Riverboat]] in 1975. Unfortunately, the Joe Fowler was damaged in 1980 and never returned to active duty. In 1996, The Richard F. Irvine Riverboat was renamed the [[Liberty Belle]].  The next closure change in Liberty Square came with the closure of the Mike Fink Keel boats. The Mike Fink Feel Keel Boats were free floating boats based on the popular Disney television show, Davy Crockett, which . The Keel Boats allowed guests to take off from Liberty Square and circle around [[Tom Sawyers Sawyer Island]]. In 1997, one of the Disneyland Mike Fink Keel boats Boats capsized with guests on board and after . After the accident , both the Disneyland and the Walt Disney World versions of the attraction were permanently closed.

Besides the closing of the Mike Fink Feel Boats, the The only other change changes to occur in Liberty Square happened at [[in The Hall of Presidents]]. In 1993 President Bill Clinton was added to the attraction. Unlike the former presidents of the hall, Bill Clinton actually personally recorded his speech. Besides just adding and the show received a new president, when the show reopened in 1993, the tone of the attraction had also changed. The Hall of Presidents now narration which focused much more on slavery and other racial issues of race relations then it had in the past. The attraction was once again changed in 2009. Besides with the obvious inclusion election of Barack Obama into . At this time the Hall of Presidents, the show also focuses attraction was once more given a little less heavily on racial issues and slavery than beforenew narration. Another addition features during the refurbishment was the inclusion of Abraham Lincoln delivering the Gettysburg Address and a montage of Presidential speeches.
