As part of the Muppets from agreement, Disney would have become the owner of the Muppet franchise and Jim Hensonwould have joined the company in numerous roles. After acquiring the Muppets, and was planning Disney also planned on adding the characters integrating them into their theme parks<ref name= "time"/>. In 1990 Disney announced that following their purchase of the Muppets, a new area would be added to the [[Disney-MGM Studios]]. Known as The , Imagineers began to work on plans for Muppet Movieland, the <ref name= "Martin"> http://www.martinsvids.net/?p=30 </ref>. This new area of the park would have featured two main attractions including , The Great Muppet Movie Ride a (a Muppet themed parody of [[The Great Movie Ride]])and a 3D film attraction<ref name= "Martin"/>. Unfortunately Although construction on the 3D theater for Muppet Movieland was underway, Jim Henson tragically died 's tragic death in May of 1990caused the merger between the companies to fall through <ref name= "Seattle"/> http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19910519&slug=1284051 </ref>. Without Henson, Disney's interest in the Muppet's waned, and his Henson's estate chose not sell balked at Disney's offer to purchase the Muppets . The falling through of the merger led to a biter lawsuit being filled<ref name= "Seattle"/> . On May 19, 1991 however a confidential settlement was reached between the two parties<ref name= "Seattle"/> . As part of the agreement, Disneywas allowed to continue their development of the 3D Muppet attraction, and they were given merchandising rights for 18 months<ref name= "Seattle"/> . Although in the end the Muppets would come to Disney-MGM Studios, the plans for integration were drastically cut back. Instead of Muppet Movieland, Disney instead constructed the 3D theater and a Muppet area surrounding it<ref name= "Martin"/>.
Although the failed merger drastically cut back the scale, the Muppets were still added to the Disney MGM Studios as planned. Instead of Muppet Movieland, Disney only completed a 3D theater and a small themed area surrounding the attraction. This 3D show opened as Jim Henson's Muppet*Vision 3D on May 16, 1991. The new show used 3D film, in theater effects and Audio Animatronics, to give guests a tour of Muppet's lab. Muppet Vision 3D (as the show would eventually be known) was the last project to be directed by Jim Henson.
Although no changes have to the Muppet Vision 3D show itself, the attraction has seen some minor changes. In 2005, Jim Henson's name was dropped from the attraction, with the attraction being renamed simply “Muppet Vision 3D”. In 2006, the attraction's entrance sign was changed. Jim Henson's name was removed from the sign, and drawings of Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, Dr. Honeydew and Beaker were added. In 2009, new parody posters were added to the show's queue including spoofs of: Hamah Montana, Pirates of the Amphibian, High School Mayhem, Wild Frogs and BEAK•E. Finally, in 2010 the projection system used in the show was updated.
