|Opening date||September 1, 2005|
Pooh's Playful Spot originally opened on September 1, 2005, on the former location of part of the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea lagoon . Taking its inspiration from Disney's Winnie the Pooh franchise, the new attraction was a large playground for young children. The outdoor play area was centered around 120 foot tree, at the base of which, guests could see and explore Pooh's house. In addition to this central locale, Pooh's Playful Spot also featured logs, honey pots, a tree house, and water fountains for young guests to play in.
Originally billed as a temporary attraction , Pooh's Playful Spot remained open until April 11, 2010, when the playground was closed to make way for the 2010 Fantasyland Expansion . At this time, Pooh's house (and the large tree that it was incorporated into) was moved to the entrance of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh .
When announced Disney described Pooh's Playful Spot:
Opening in September is a delightful new place where parents and children can play or relax together during a Walt Disney World vacation.
Called Pooh's Playful Spot, the whimsically themed area is located directly across from The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh attraction in Fantasyland and
will immerse guests of all ages in the beloved tales of the Hundred Acre Wood.
The beautifully landscaped oasis created by Walt Disney Imagineering offers numerous fun features for littler guests, including spurting fountains of water,
crawl-through logs and honey pots, a slide, a treehouse for climbing and log-style benches for grown-ups -- all themed to the stories of Pooh, Tigger and friends.
