Primeval Whirl opened on April 18, 2002 as part of the Chester and Hester's Dino-Rama expansion of DinoLand USA <ref name= "mouseplanet"> https://www.mouseplanet.com/guide/57/Walt-Disney-World/Disneys-Animal-Kingdom/DinoLand-USA/Primeval-Whirl </ref>. Although the attraction has remained essentially unchanged since it opened, following the accidental death of a cast member in 2007, pressure sensors that automatically stop the attraction were added to Primeval Whirl's track in 2008 <ref name= "mouseplanet"/>.
