Singer-Songwriter Kal David was chosen as the The voice of Sonny Eclipse<ref name= "wdwradio"/> . is performed by singer-songwriter Kal David , who was approached by George Disney producer Geroge Wilkins, who had written a lot of music for Disneyabout performing the role. Wilkins and David had previously worked together on the [[Wonders of Life ]] attraction [[Goofy About Health<ref name= "wdwradio"/>]]. Wilkins wrote and recorded the music for Sonny Eclipse except for the guitar parts, which were written by David<ref name= "wdwradio"/> . The Space Angels (Sonny's backup singers) were voiced by The Brunettes, a group which included David's girlfriend Lorrie<ref name= "wdwradio"/> . When recording their harmonies, The Brunettes were in a vocal booth that was also occupied by Wilkins' washer and dryer, creating a tight squeeze<ref name= "wdwradio"/> .
The Audio Animatronic figure that would become Sonny Eclipse was a modified version of the Audio Animatronic Officer Zzzzyxxx, who was the baggage screener at Tokyo Disneyland's Star Tours <ref> http://yourfirstvisit.net/2016/04/22/a-friday-visit-with-jim-korkis-cosmic-rays-starlight-cafe-and-sonny-eclipse/ </ref>.
