Pavilion History and Layout

Although an American pavilion was always going to be a part of World Showcase, Imagineers were not always sure where they wanted to place the pavilion. Originally, the American Adventure pavilion was going to be placed in-between Future World and World Showcase. The pavilion would have been two stories tall, with the first floor serving as bridge from Future World to World Showcase. While the second level, would have housed the American Adventure attraction. Eventually however, it was decided that the pavilion would be located at the center of World Showcase, thus it would be the host the other countries around the lagoon. As the host, when the pavilion was build, it was raised so that it would be the higher then all the other pavilions. The pavilion was named "The American Adventure" instead of the "United States" or "America" pavilion, because Imagineers did not design the pavilion to make people feel as if they were visiting America. Instead, they wanted the pavilion to be the host of World Showcase, while also providing a historical attraction.

When the pavilion opened, it consisted of one large building and an outdoor amphitheater. The pavilion's building houses The American Adventure (attraction), the Liberty Inn and the The American Heritage Gallery, which currently hosts the "National Treasures" exhibit. The American Adventure attraction was originally going to be a dark ride type, but it eventually opened as a theater show. The show takes guests through the history of America, beginning with the countries founding. The American Adventure pavilion also has a small gift shop known as Heritage Manor Gifts. Across from the American Adventures main building, is the America Gardens Theater, where live entertainment can often be found.

Since it's opening, the only change to the American Adventure pavilion has been an update of it's attraction in 1993, and then again in 1997.

Attractions

American Adventure (Attraction)- This historical show uses photos, video, music and Audio Anamatronics to tell the story of America. The attraction is hosted by Ben Franklin and Mark Twain.

Restaurants

Liberty Inn- Located in American Adventure's main building, the Liberty Inn is a counter service restaurant. The restaurant specializes in American cuisine, including hot dogs and hamburgers.

Shopping

Heritage Manor- This small gift shop sells historical American souvenirs.

Live Entertainment

The Voices of Liberty- This eight piece a cappella group often can be found performing inside the American Adventure pavilion. The group is often used as a preshow for the American Adventure attraction, although they also do special events around the pavilion.

Spirit of America Fife & Drum Corps- This authentic band entertains guests with patriotic American music throughout the day.

Other live performances can often be seen at the America Gardens Theater, although these frequently change. During the Flower and Garden Festival, bands from the 1960s and 70s perform as part of the "Flower Power" concert series.

Fun Facts and Trivia

The pavilions architect was George Terpatsi who designed the pavilion's main building to look like a Georgian mansion.

If guests look closely at the clock on the steeple, in the American Adventure pavilion, they will notice that the roman numeral four is written as IIII (instead of IV). This was standard in the time of America's founding, because IV was used to represent the Roman God Jupiter.
