Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure[edit]

The Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure was a playground area located in Disney's Hollywood Studios.

History[edit]

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure was an outdoor playground based on the 1989 film Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. The attraction was a 11,000 sq. foot play area, where guests felt as if they had been hit by professor Wayne Szalinski’s shrink ray. The attraction opened on December 17, 1990 and closed April 2, 2016.

Equipment[edit]

The Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure playground was scaled to make guests feel like they had been shrunk to the size of ¼ of an inch. Some of the notable sights in the playground included:

  • Slides designed to look like a Kodak film strip, flower petals and tree stumps
  • Anthills and plant root mazes that guests could explore and hide in
  • A giant spider web which guests could climb
  • A dog nose (modeled after Quirk from the movie) which “sneezed” mist onto guests
  • A giant 52 ft leaking water hose
  • “Giant” objects such cheerios, bumblebees, ants and a Play-Doh tub

Fun Facts and Trivia[edit]

  • The soft surface used throughout the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure is also used in the play area The Boneyard in Animal Kingdom.
  • The giant blades of grass found within the playground were 30 feet tall.
  • The bumble bees found in the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure were 42 feet tall.
  • The Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure had a capacity of 250 people.
  • Cast members were stationed at the exits of the playground to make sure that no children could get out of the area without their parents.
