Treasures of Xandar was originally announced as the Wonders of Xandar pavilion's gift shop on March 23, 2022 <ref name= "announcement"> https://www.wdwmagic.com/attractions/guardians-of-the-galaxy/news/23mar2022-treasures-of-xandar-revealed-at-guardians-of-the-galaxy-cosmic-rewind.htm </ref>. At this time, Imagineer Zach Riddley also revelaed the shop's entrance sign, and noted that the shop would be operated by the "Broker", a Xandarian who won a contract to set up shop in Epcot <ref name= "announcement"/>.

The official Treasures of Xandar backstory states that the store is operated by The Broker, a proud Xandarian, who’s been awarded the contract and brought part of his famous store here to EPCOT. Some of the merchandise pays tribute to Xandar and items acquired throughout the galaxy and, of course, some items celebrate The Heroes of Xandar, the Guardians of the Galaxy.
