The genesis of the restaurant that would eventually be known as Tony's Town Square  began during the planing of the [[Magic Kingdom]]. 1970 blueprints for the location indicate that it was originally earmarked for the "Coffee Mill Restaurant" <ref name= "widen"> http://www.omniluxe.net/wyw/hsphouse.htm </ref>. These plans were eventually changed however, and when the park opened on October 1, 1971 the restaurant was known as the Town Square Cafe sponsored by Oscar-Mayer<ref name= "widen"/> . The Town Square Restaurant featured turn of the century decor and an open-air dining area.

What today is known as the Plaza Restaurant was originally a part of the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor when the Magic Kingdom opened on October 1, 1971 [1]. From 1971 until 1976 this restaurant featured an ice cream parlor and a seating area [1]. In 1977, the restaurant was divided in two, with the parlor and seating area each becoming their own seperate entities [1]. At this time, the seating area portion of the establishment was converted to a restaurant named "The Plaza Restaurant".

Since the Plaza Restaurant opened it has not seen any major changes.

Description

The Plaza Restaurant is themed as a turn of the century dining parlor with Art Nouveau decoration. Throughout the day, various Citizens of Main Street may make appearances inside the restaurant.
