Mexico is a pavilion located within World Showcase at Epcot. It is located between the World Showcase entrance and Norway.
History
===Early Development- Roger Rabbit Land==The stretch of land that is today known as Sunset Boulevard A Mexican pavilion was initially earmarked planned for an area based on World Showcase since the 1989 Disney film “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”. Known as “Roger Rabbit’s Hollywood Land” or “Maroon Studios” during its area’s initial development, this new area although early plans show Mexico situated across the lagoon (where the Canada pavilion sits today) from the plot it would feature three new Roger Rabbit attractionseventually be built on . At the outset, Toontown Trolleythe planned pavilion was to include two restaurants, as well as an attraction named “Las Tres Culturas de Mexico” . Although well developed, the plans for the Mexico pavilion boat ride were initially going to be pushed back to EPCOT Center’s “Phase Two”, and be built at a Benny later date . At this point in the pavilion’s development, the load area and lagoon were to be constructed, with the idea that the Cab ride (which itself would eventually open be built in Disneyland as Roger Rabbitthe future . These plans changed however when Germany’s Rhine River Cruise attraction was cancelled along with the Japan pavilion's Car Toon Spin)Meet the World show. As Compounded by the fact that the plans continued to develop, Imagineers for an Equatorial Africa pavilion were also pitched the idea of creating Sunset Boulevardshelved, Disney had a capacity issue. With no other rides in World Showcase, with the Roger Rabbit area would not have enough attractions located at to meet its expected guest capacity . As a remedy for this situation, Disney decided to make Las Tres Culturas de Mexico an opening day attraction, changing the end of attraction’s name to El Rio del Tiempo. In order to complete the street attraction (roughly where Rock n Roller Coaster is located todayand pavilion)on time, the rides length was shortened by 40% and moved completely inside . This incarnation of Sunset Boulevard would have also included a working Red Car trolley that would transport guests down street.
Despite the fairly elaborate plans that Disney had for their Roger Rabbit arealate starting point of the project, problems quickly arose the Mexico pavilion opened with the character rights between Disney and Amblin Entertainment (who had partnered with Disney to create Who Framed Roger Rabbit?). These disagreements caused Disney to change gears when looking at a Disney- MGM Studios expansion. Instead rest of a Roger Rabbit area, Disney decided to focus on creating Sunset Boulevard.===Sunset Boulevard===Sunset Boulevard officially opened World Showcase on June 12October 1, 1994.
