Attraction History

The Barnstormer at Goofy’s Wiseacre Farm

The history of what would eventually be known as The Barnstormer Featuring Goofy as the Great Goofini began in 1988 with the creation of Mickey’s Starland. Within Mickey’s Starland a petting zoo known as Grandma Duck's Petting Farm could be found [1]. The small petting zoo featured various animals which were housed within a large barn. When Mickey’s Starland was replaced with Mickey’s Toontown Fair in 1996, the barn that had once been a part of Grandma Duck’s Petting Farm was incorporated into a new small steel roller coaster titled The Barnstormer at Goofy’s Wiseacre Farm [2].

The Barnstormer (as most fans called it) was a one minute, gentle roller coaster that allowed guests to board Goofy’s self-designed “Multiflex Octoplane” (an airplane), and follow a flight path that he had previously flown [3]. Along the way guests would twist and turn, even “crashing” into a barn at full speed. In keeping with the rest of Mickey’s Toontown Fair, The Barnstormer at Goofy’s Wiseacre Farm had a rural theme to it Cite error: Closing </ref> missing for <ref> tag. On February 12, 2011 the attraction closed along with the rest of Mickey’s Toontown Fair Cite error: Closing </ref> missing for <ref> tag. The new attraction titled The Barnstormer Featuring Goofy as the Great Goofini allows guests to participate in the one of The Great Goofini’s stunt flights. Although now themed to fit in with Storybook Circus, the attraction’s track remained essentially unchanged. Since the Barnstormer reopened in 2012 there have been no major changes to the attraction.

Attraction Plot

The Barnstormer Starring the Great Goofini is a one minute gentle roller coaster which reaches a top speed of 25 mph. The official ride description by Disney states:

Climb aboard a wacky stunt plane and become a part of The Great Goofini’s daredevil act.

Step underneath a grand circus marquee and make your way to an open-air barn where Goofy—known as The Great Goofini—has been known to perform his famous death-defying, high-flying show. Once inside the red hanger, board one of Goofy’s very own stunt biplanes and hold on tight as you prepare to take to the skies above New Fantasyland.

The flying spectacle begins as your plane gracefully ascends to the top of a nearby wooden observation tower. Then, brace yourself as you rapidly swoop down and around the bustling barnyard, following the flight path made famous by The Grand Goofini. Dart around gentle bends, peel past trees and soar through the broken section of a nearby billboard before “landing” safely back inside the barn during the grand, fun-filled finale.

Fun Facts and Trivia

The Barnstormer at Goofy's Wiseacre Farm

  • The chickens located inside the barn on the original Barnstormer were originally used in the traffic jam scene in the World of Motion attraction at Epcot [4].
  • A portrait of Goofy flying into the water tower could be found at Minnie House, which was located across the street in Mickey's Toontown Fair.

The Barnstormer Featuring Goofy as the Great Goofini

  • The billboard for the Barnstormer Featuring Goofy as the Great Goofini features subtle references to two past Disney World attractions:
  • The phrase "An Acrobatic Skyleidoscope" is a reference to the EPCOT Center daytime show that ran from 1985 until 1987 in the World Showcase Lagoon.
  • The second reference involves the small sea gulls seen flying away in the top right corner of the billboard. These are a subtle nod to the sea gulls which were found in the various scenes within the closed Tomorrowland attraction If You Had Wings.
