Attraction History and Description

The Boneyard Playground opened with the rest of Disney's Animal Kingdom on April 22, 1998. The Boneyard features two sides. One one side, younger guests can play on slides, tunnels, and a rope climbing area. The area also features dinosaur footprints that play music when stepped on, a jeep, and a set of dinosaur ribs that play music when knocked on.

If guests cross the bridge that has built into a brachiosaurus skeleton, they can enter the excavation area. Here, young kids can play the role of archaeologist as they search through the large sandbox for dinosaur bones. T-Rex, triceratops, and wooly mammoth bones can all be dug up here.

Fun Facts and Trivia

  • Disney took casts of real dinosaur bones from various places such as Dinosaur National Park in Utah. Reproductions were then made of plastic cement for use the the Boneyard [1].
  • The sign for the Boneyard was made from a replica of a Stegosaurus's shoulder blade [1].
  • According to the sign, the Boneyard was established in 1947 [2]
