Harambe Marketplace[edit]

The Harambe Marketplace is a counter service restaurant made up of five stands in the Africa section of Disney's Animal Kingdom.

History[edit]

The Harambe Marketplace opened on May 23, 2015, as an expansion of the existing Africa section of the park [1],. Themed as an African street market, the Harambe Marketplace was originally comprised of four stands: Famous Sausages (African corn dogs), Wanjohl’s Refreshments (alcoholic beverages), Kitamu Grill (skewered chicken and a flatbread sandwich), and Chief Mwanga (ribs) [2]. On June 17, 2015, Zuri's Sweets, a bakery, opened inside the marketplace [3].

Backstory[edit]

According to Disney, the Harambe Marketplace was "built around a Colonial-era train depot design complete with a 1960s water tower, the marketplace re-creates a bustling center of commerce where guests are welcomed from around the world who have come to visit the little seaside town and venture out to the reserve to observe Africa’s animals." [4].
