Turtle Talk with Crush[edit]

Turtle Talk with Crush is an attraction located in The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilion at Epcot

History[edit]

The show that would eventually develop into Turtle Talk with Crush, began as a prototype at Walt Disney Imagineering's Research and Development lab [1]. Following the success of the Stitch Phone booth that Disney R&D installed in Disneyland's Innoventions, Disney began to look into other interactive experiences [2]. According to Disney, the project began with a challenge to "give guests a way to personally interact with Crush from his animated, undersea world" [1]. After three years of development, Imagineering created the show Turtle Talk with Crush. This new attraction was a product of Disney's Living Character Initiative (a program that would later produce the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor.

Although originally pitched as a pre-show idea for a Tokyo DisneySea attraction [2], Turtle Talk with Crush opened on November 16, 2004 in The Living Seas pavilion [3]. The new interactive show was initially housed in Sea Base Alpha's Module 1C [4] . The immense popularity of the show, led to the entire Living Seas pavilion being closed in August 2005, in order to integrate characters from Finding Nemo into the rest of the pavilion.

Although the majority of the pavilion would remain closed until October 10, 2006, Turtle Talk with Crush reopened in November 2005 [4]. Once the rest of The Seas with Nemo & Friends (as the pavilion was now named) reopened, Turtle Talk with Crush was moved to a larger Module 1A, which was connected to the old Living Seas preshow theater 2 [4]. On February 17, 2007, Turtle Talk with Crush reopened in its new location [5].

On May 6, 2016 characters from the Disney-Pixar film Finding Dory were incorporated into Turtle Talk with Crush. These characters include: Dory, Destiny the whale shark, Bailey the beluga whale and Hank the "septopus" [6]

Fun Facts and Trivia[edit]

  • Imagineers originally experimented with using Stitch as the star of a new interactive show. Due to the fact that Stitch was already set to get his own attraction in the Magic Kingdom (Stitch's Great Escape), Imagineers turned their attention to Crush [7].
