Golden Oak Outpost
History
The Golden Oak Outpost originally opened as Frontierland Fries in 1996. The stand was themed to look like a covered wagon. The restaurant's creation came out of an agreement between Disney and Mcdonalds which allowed Mcdonalds to sell their fries in select locations in Walt Disney World, with one of those locations being a new stand in Frontierland. Frontierland Fries sold Mcdonalds fries and chicken nuggets along with other refreshments. The contract signed by the two lasted for ten years, and when it ran up in 2007, the parties chose not to renew it. Following the end of the contract, all references to Mcdonalds were gradually removed from Walt Disney World.
Frontierland Fries closed on September 27, 2008. In early 2009, a new covered wagon stand opened, now named the Golden Oak Outpost. The menu still consists of chicken and french fries, although obviously not from Mcdonalds.
